Being a rookie team, and with tricky track conditions, it was a challenging weekend. Nonetheless, it was extremely gratifying to finally see the car on track, racing.

Heavy rain during Q1 prevented us from being able to get the best out of the car for Elia, placing him in P28. In Q2 we made the right tire choice allowing him to put in a good lap which placed him 7th on the grid for the second race.

In the first race, Elia started 28th and despite having to pit for a front wing change, managed to gain a few positions and finish 23rd. Race two was a lost opportunity given the good starting position: unfortunately, steering column damage made it difficult for Elia to maintain his pace but still managed to cross the line in 17th. With some excellent work from our mechanics, the car was ready in time for race 3 and Elia managed to cross the line 19th.

Placing P10 in the rookie classifications of races 2 & 3, Elia scored his first rookie points, starting off the season in style.

Despite higher ambitions, as a rookie team, with a rookie driver, it is hard not to be pleased with these results given that less than a year ago, Maffi Racing was just an idea in the making. Now, we’re as motivated as ever and can’t wait to get back on track in Misano for round two.
